The United States has set a new record for SARS-CoV-2 cases, with more than 248,000 infections confirmed in 24 hours, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. At the same time, the country mourned another 2,706 deaths due to COVID-19.
The US has been breaking one “black” record after another for 14 days. The limit of 200,000 infections in a 24 hour period has been exceeded in 10 of the last 13 days.
The number of patients admitted to hospitals is also at its highest level since the outbreak of the pandemic: 113,000 beds are occupied by people with coronavirus, according to data released by the US Department of Health.
